Senior Pastor Bill Bennett

Dr. Bennett entered the corporate arena, moving to Boston, Massachusetts in 1978, where he was a manager in the private industry for six years. He returned to Washington, D.C. in 1984, and answered the Lord’s call to the ministry. He prepared to preach and teach the Gospel of Christ by entering the Howard University School of Divinity. He was ordained by the Galilee Baptist Church in 1987. He received a Master of Divinity Degree in 1990 and a Doctor of Ministry Degree in 1992. His Doctoral Dissertation was entitled “The African American Church as a Conduit to Economic Empowerment.” Dr. Bennett’s educational accomplishments also include completing the Harvard University Leadership Development Institute.

During his years of seminary education and training, Dr. Bennett began serving within the church, first as Youth Minister at Berean Baptist Church and then at Galilee Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. He then became Associate Pastor of Stewardship at Concord Missionary Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, followed by service as Associate Pastor of Ministry Development at Gethsemane Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. Dr. Bennett is also the former Chairman of the Economic Development Committee of the Progressive National Baptist Convention and the Missionary Baptist Ministers’ Conference, and he formally served as the Director, Office of Religious Affairs in the Office of the Mayor for the District of Columbia. In addition, Dr. Bennett worked as a community organizer with the Industrial Areas Foundation helping local churches in Baltimore and Washington to achieve economic and political justice and empowerment.

In 1993, Dr. Bennett served as the sixth Senior Pastor at the First Baptist Church of Deanwood for eight years, until he was led to found and pastor, Good Christian Church & Ministries in June of 2001. Since that time, Good Success has been about the deliverance and empowering mission of changing lives and communities by Creating Kingdom Citizens through workshop, evangelism, Discipleship, Fellowship and Ministry, who achieve godly Success in their Faith, Family, Finances, Fitness and Future, and in every dimension of their lives.’

Numerous lives, many in Ward 7, have experienced positive change through the various Good Success Ministries. For 10 years, The House of Good Success Men’s Ministry has helped restore hundreds of men from “life-controlling issues” such as drug & alcohol abuse. Good Success’ Family Ministry encourages families through biblical instruction, as well as outings, activities, and socialization involving couple, family/children and singles. In Spring 2011, the Ministry hosted over 25 families on a tour of the White House. The Evangelism and Community Outreach and the Master’s Missions Ministries, on a monthly basis, prepare 100 lunches for distribution to the various homeless shelters in the metropolitan area.

Additionally, during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons, more than 100 food baskets are distributed to families in outside of Ward 7. The Youth & Children’s Discipleship Ministry has provided tutoring in the area of reading, through partnership with George Washington University student volunteers. Activities are held, in conjunction with the community, throughout the year to maintain engagement of all youth. Dr. Bennett founded the Good Success Community Development Corporation which has stewardship of many properties for development in our community.

Lastly, Dr. Bennett has been blessed to have reached and ministered across our great country and in the uttermost parts of the world such as in England, Ethiopia, Ivory Coast, South Korea, Guatemala, Israel, Egypt and Costa Rica.

Dr. Bennett is an avid reader and a real “people person.” He is perhaps fondest of children and senior citizens and proudly boasts his dad as his favorite role model. Among Dr. Bennett’s many professional achievements. Dr. Bennett has three anointed children: Jayna a Corporate Executive and Pastor of Music Ministry and Arts, William H. Bennett III a college student majoring in Neuroscience, and Jaday Yvette who is graduating from High School and aspires to be an attorney..
